RCYC Super Saturday 3

RCYC Super Saturday 3 10 Jun 2017

It was one of those days when you want to shout yee ha or weeee as Colette Bacon was heard to scream as she planed across the finish line at high speed in her new RS200, some of us were happy just to get round, conditions were certainly well above my pay grade.

Yes Super Saturday was back with a vengeance. Things were already looking lively as we stepped over the sea wall to the sound of heavy rock music (kindly supplied by our resident DJ Will Palmer).

The Oppie fleet was boosted with visitors from the IOCA girls zone fleet and RS200 numbers were at full strength with no less than 6 starters. Malcy was joined by Richard Franklin in his new Blaze.

Stand in race officer Ed Aspinall and team Kah-Nee-Ta did us proud with 2 great races set in very difficult conditions, along with the mark layers and safety who all had their work cut out.

The Oppie squad gave the PRO the biggest challenge by arriving line abreast on their start line roughly 2 minutes early…the general recall was inevitable.

Ben Hutton-Penman tested the scorers by finshing race1 ahead of fast handicap fleet and Luke Beuvink struggled with the concept of un-winding himself at the final mark.

Many of the fleet went swimming and at least one cadet crossed the finish inverted.

Results as follows :

Fast handicap:

Race 1 – Malcolm Hutchings (Blaze) then Nick Hutton-Penman (Laser)
Race 2 – Luke Beuvink (Laser) then Malcolm Hutchings (Blaze)

Slow handicap:

Race 1 – Imogen Palmer (Tera) then Nick Mathews & Amelia Hague (Cadet)
Race 2 – Nick & Amelia took the bullet from James Ball (Topper)

Optimists:

Race 1 and 2 were won by Will Pank hotly pursued by Flo Brellisford

A big thank you to Annie Reid, Janice Anderson and Marion Aspinall who as well as committee boat duties gave up Saturday afternoon to input the results.
