The Medal was presented by Mary Barton, widow of Humphrey Barton, and Admiral of the Ocean Cruising Club.
It was the second time we had met this year – I had a long chat with her at Mike Richey’s funeral in January. Other award winners included Dee Caffari, first woman to circumnavigate singlehanded in both directions, and Mike Perham, who recently became the world’s youngest singlehanded circumnavigator. Needless to say, little old Mingming and I felt somewhat out of our depth in such exalted company, and our voyages somewhat meagre by comparison. However it was very gratifying to have our efforts recognised.
