Cruiser Race to Harwich 28 May 2013
We were greeted by a bright sunny morning and a light Northerly for the race to Harwich – making this the second successful Bank Holiday weekend of 2013.
George Winder, on the committee boat, set the starting line at Greenward and saw the boats set off with Chris Nolan and Arthur Heasley on Grace in the lead. They held their lead, keeping inshore, out of the incoming tide, until the Swin Spitway. The tide turned to take them up The Wallet and, with the increase in wind, Sue and Graham King on Quick Reflex took off and went into the lead. They took an early tack over to the Clacton shore which paid and showed they only needed one tack to get to the finish at Stonebanks Buoy.
The Corinthian Cruisers were booked into Levington Marina where they were joined by the cruising division – Clara with Robert and Tracy Coyle – for an enjoyable meet in The Lightship. Quick Reflex won the race by two minutes on handicap – at first Arthur thought this was only fifty nine seconds but that was because the bar sold very good Adnams…
