Cruise in Company to West Mersea

Cruise in Company to West Mersea 29 May 2019

RCYC Cruiser Fleet

 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th May 2019

Dinner at the West Mersea Yacht Club on the evening of Saturday 25th of May was the focal point of this event.  As can be seen from the photo a good time was had by all.  The food, wine and excellent launch service to and from the moorings made this a venue that all of the participants are keen to revisit in the not too distant future.

Making the journey from the Crouch to the Blackwater via the Spitway on Friday enabled the Crews of ‘Voyager’ and ‘Vellamo’ to dine on the Friday evening at the Oyster Bar and have an easy day on Saturday.

The Saturday afternoon tide saw the arrival of ‘Clara of Burnham’, ‘Fynnesse’, ‘Boscollina’ and the newest addition to the Motor Cruiser Fleet ‘Aurora’.

On Sunday ‘Aurora’ made the short crossing to Bradwell for an overnight stay at the Marina and reported excellent food being served at the ‘Green Man’ pub.

The five remaining boats returned to the River Crouch on Sunday turning at the Spitway into a strengthening SW wind.  The Whitaker Channel afforded the four yachts the luxury of a long tack followed by a short tack but a decent fetch eluded them leaving only the option of a hard beat or motor-sailing.

George Jenyns’ yacht was in her element sailing all the way from the Nass Beacon to the Fambridge moorings showing a clean pair of heels to all comers in the approaches to the Crouch.  George would have enjoyed the ride but had to return home on Saturday night for a family event on Sunday leaving Steve & Katherine to have all of the ‘fun’.  All in all a good day for anyone with shares in any company selling self-tacking jib arrangements.

Aurora made her way home to Burnham on Monday’s afternoon tide.

Thanks to Simon Sanders whose suggestion it was to go to West Mersea for this event.
