A presentation by Duncan Lougee
at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club followed by a Carvery Lunch
The ‘Jester Challenge’ dates back to 1960 and presents the single handed ocean sailor with the opportunity to take part in a unique event with a unique ocean sailing philosophy. Listed as ‘Seamanship without Showmanship’ and ‘A modern experiment in old-fashioned self reliance, self sufficiency and personal responsibility’ the Jester Challenge is now an annual event. Open to all, boats have to be between 20 and 30 feet in length and if they have an engine fitted it is not to be used for propulsion. For more information on the Jester Challenge see the link here.
RCYC member Roger Taylor is well known for his single handed ocean passages including the Jester Challenge and more recently his voyages to the Ice Flows at 81 degrees North in his 24ft yacht MingMing II. More information on Roger’s sailing adventures can be found on his website here.
Roger now has a leading role in the organisation of Jester Challenge events, not least the challenge in 2021 from the South Coast to the Azores.
Duncan Lougee took part in that event and has kindly agreed to talk to us about his experience.
The presentation begins promptly at midday followed by the Carvery from 13:15. Please help the staff by purchasing your drinks from the down-stairs bar by 11:40 and take your seats on the first floor by 11:55, if you are delayed please join us on the first floor by using the stairs at the Eastern end of the building to avoid disturbing the presentation.
