Information on our Pond Group
Our youngest Otters start off their sailing days in our Beginners Group on the calm waters of the pond at Ratsborough Farm using our club owned Optimist training dinghies. Aimed at children aged between 7 to 10, the emphasis of these sessions is on having fun whilst learning the basics of sailing and building confidence in a boat and on the water.
The majority of children who start sailing with us spend at least one season on the pond learning the basics before moving onto the river in their own boat. We recommend that sailors in this group join us at the start of the sailing season to get the most from the sessions on offer.
Sessions for the 2023 Pond Group take place every Saturday morning from 9.30 – 12 noon and run from Easter through to Otter Week. As with all our sailing sessions children are required to wear their own buoyancy aid and must be accompanied by an adult.
Our beginners group is hugely popular so we operate a waiting list each year. Children of members of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club receive priority entrance with any remaining places allocated to children of non members on a first come first served basis.
