Hat Trick for Baby Beluga! 28 Jul 2007
The series of Hunter 707 races for the Phantom Trophy was completed last weekend for the third year in succession at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
This historic trophy was first awarded in 1833, pre-dating the America’s Cup by 18 years.
The series for this trophy consists of six races with one discard.
John’s discard was in the second race which Baby Beluga did not finish. The weather was not too kind and with the tip of the mast in the water and one member of the crew involuntarily swimming, they decided to call it a day! Once Peter was back on board, they sailed for home.
In the fourth race, the spinnaker boom snapped but thanks to the long arms of Jamie they went on to win the race.
A win in the final race secured the trophy for the 3rd time.
Well done the Baby Beluga team!
