707 Burnham Week Report 6 Sep 2015
‘Horace’ AKA Paul Gray in Beaver Hunter retained the 707 Weekend Series Trophy.
The 707 Fleet mustered five local boats & one visitor for the weekend series of three races. Racing was fairly competitive through out the weekend with all boats going on to participate in the 707 Nationals 2nd – 5th September, although Feeling Touchy & Rooster would have different crews & Baby Beluga a different helm.
With reasonable conditions & courses for the Saturday & Sunday, Beaverhunter was the overnight leader with three points from Richard Bavin & Rafiki, our visitor from Waldringfield, helmed by Aaron Woolf, with five points, going into the final day, and what a day! Miserable weather even for ducks & especially for the Quay Day.
In order to make a good spectacle for the Quay Day, the course was set to pass through the Town, giving only one good beat. The winner of this beat was surely going to be the winner of the reaching legs ahead, which proved the case for BeaverHunter giving ‘Horace’ the Trophy.
Sadly the Quay Day participants didn’t get a chance to see the sailing spectacular as the rain & mist across the water reduced the visibility to poor!
